How to help

Why make a contribution to the Bill 7 Award?

We need the Bill 7 Award Trust to keep on growing, so that we can provide more financial support to more queer students, as the costs of tuition and other school expenses keep on rising. By making a contribution to the Bill 7 Award you are able to have a real and concrete impact in the lives of queer youth living in Ontario.

The struggles that we have undertaken as a community over the years have produced some important gains. Making an investment in a young person’s future is a way to continuing the fight for equal rights for LGBTT people. First we fought for basic human rights, now we fight to empower and support the next generation. The Bill 7 Award provides a way to support and empower queer youth through enabling them to have access to a post-secondary education.

Please print out this donor reply form and mail with your cheque to the address on the donor reply form. Your generosity is very much appreciated!

Please note the donor reply form offers you three choices for how your donation is handled.  You may direct that your donation to the Bill 7 Award Trust Fund be:

1)      held in trust for a period of not less than ten years and deposited in the capital fund;

2)       used to provide bursaries to students during the next year; or

3)      either as the trustees determine.

You may also make a donation to the Bill 7 Award by credit card through CanadaHelps

Is my donation tax deductible?
YES! Donations to the Award are charitable, and we will issue a tax receipt for your donation. Your receipts will be promptly mailed to you, and will not be used for any other mailing list.

CanadaHelps will issue receipts for credit card donations made to the Bill 7 Award Trust.

How is the money spent?
All the money we receive from individual donors goes either directly into the capital trust fund, or remains outside the capital fund and along with interest generated by the capital fund is disbursed in the next granting year.  We rely on our sponsor community organizations to cover our administrative expenses (less than $400 a year). Volunteer labour and donated materials mean that almost all of your money goes directly to the Award. Your money is used directly to benefit students who need it the most.

Volunteering your Time

We welcome community groups to hold fundraisers, help publicize the Award and/or join our Board of Trustees. If you are interested in contributing your time and talent to the Award, please contact SOY at (416) 324-5077 or e-mail info@bill7award.ca.

Tuition costs are rising in Ontario, and applications for the award have ranged between 60 to over 100 applicants for the Bill 7 Awards each year. We expect to see even more in the coming years and need your support to be able to increase both the number and the amount of the awards granted each year.

Invest in youth; invest in education; invest in our community’s future. Please support the Bill 7 Award Trust.
