What we do

Bill 7 was passed as the result of gay and lesbian activists fighting the discrimination that exists against us all.  Those activists recognized that although the queer community is a diverse one, together we face a common oppression. The Bill 7 Award is named in honour of this spirit of our unity.

Queer students often face discrimination in the form of economic problems. Their needs are not adequately met by the present financial aid system.

We feel that the responsibility for educating our youth should be taken up by our community. Increasing the numbers of educated queers in all aspects of our society will create future spokespersons to articulate our community’s issues and concerns.

The Bill 7 Award Trust Fund is formed to financially assist gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, transsexual, queer and 2-spirited post-secondary students who have demonstrated financial need and are active in the queer community.
